This repository contains fatigue data generated for the PhD thesis 'Fatigue cracking of corroded cast iron pipes exposed to complex loading' [1]. This data has been published in the following journal articles [2,3].

This Thesis presented the first experimental validation of a model for predicting the fatigue strength of Grey Cast Iron (GCI) pipes that feature corrosion pitting and are subjected to complex load combinations.

A unique aspect of this work was the extensive laboratory test programme. Novel experiments were used to investigate the effects of pit geometry and load type on the fatigue strength and leakage behaviour of GCI pipes.

The fatigue data contained in this repository list the applied stress amplitude and cycles to failure for each fatigue test conducted as part of the above thesis.

[1] Edward John (2024) 'Fatigue cracking of corroded cast iron pipes exposed to complex loading' [PhD Thesis], The University of Sheffield, https://etheses.whiterose.ac.uk/id/oai_id/oai:etheses.whiterose.ac.uk:36481

[2] Edward John, Joby Boxall, Richard Collins, Elisabeth Bowman, Luca Susmel (2024) 'Multiaxial fatigue of water pipe grey cast iron', International Journal of Fatigue, Volume 178, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ijfatigue.2023.108002

[3] Edward John, Joby Boxall, Richard Collins, Elisabeth Bowman, Luca Susmel (2026) 'Multiaxial notch fatigue of corroded cast iron pipes', International Journal of Fatigue, Volume 202, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ijfatigue.2025.109247
