Collated rating data: Ratings of importance of emotions, valence and arousal of emotions and perceived emotions in music

<p dir="ltr">This data is the collated data containing five subsets of data: </p><ol><li>Ratings of the importance of listed emotions in music</li><li>Ratings of the arousal of listed emotions</li><li>Ratings of the valence of listed emotions </li><li>Ratings of the perception of listed emotions in 8 excerpts of Western Classical music </li><li>Ratings of the perception of listed emotions in 8 excerpts of North American Jazz. </li></ol><p dir="ltr">Each subset includes the evaluation of 12 emotion pairs as indicated in the names using the following key:</p><table><tr><td>1 anger, aggression -- ang</td></tr><tr><td>2 confidence, pride -- con</td></tr><tr><td>3 enthusiasm, interest -- ent</td></tr><tr><td>4 indifference, boredom -- ind</td></tr><tr><td>5 joy, happiness -- joy</td></tr><tr><td>6 longing, nostalgia -- lon</td></tr><tr><td>7 relaxation, calmness -- rel</td></tr><tr><td>8 repulsion, aversion -- rep</td></tr><tr><td>9 sadness, depression -- sad</td></tr><tr><td>10 spirituality, transcendence -- spi</td></tr><tr><td>11 tenderness, love -- ten</td></tr><tr><td>12 tense, unease -- tns<br><p><br></p><p dir="ltr">Eight excerpts of WC (western classical music), and NJ (north american jazz) were presented to participants. The key for these excerpts are:</p><p dir="ltr">j=joy (or positive valence and high arousal), c=calm (or positive valence and low arousal), s=sad (or negative valence and low arousal), t=tension (or negative valence and high arousal). Additionally, these indicators are qualified by an m=moderate and e=extreme, indicating a more moderate and extreme version. </p><p dir="ltr">Four groups of participants participated in the research: younger (18-30) and older (56-68) participants from Japan or UK. </p><p dir="ltr">This research obtained ethics approval via the University of Sheffield, under ethics number: 056099</p></td></tr></table><p></p>
