Forecast of the energetic electron environment of the radiation belts

<p>This directory contains the output data sets from the VNC run for the period including the March 17, 2015 (St Patrick's day geomagnetic disturbance), as a zip archive.</p> <p><br></p> <p>There are two runs, one using the fixed L* coupling (directory *_fixed) that assumes L*gso = 6.2, the other using an L* that depends upon Kp (directory *_var).</p> <p><br></p> <p>Each of these sub-directories contains</p> <p><br></p> <p>VNC input files</p> <ul> <li>Bf.dat - boundary flux scaling parameters (plain text)</li> <li>Kp.dat - Kalues of Kp index (plain text)</li> </ul> <p><br></p> <p>VNC output files</p> <p><br></p> <ul> <li>OutPSD*.dat - Files containing electron flux PSD from  VERB (plain text)</li> <li>perpgrid_*.plt - Grid information (plain text)</li> <li>radgrid_*.plt - Grid information (plain text)</li> </ul> <p>The data from which the figures showing the variation of L* as various functions of Kp may be found in the file lstar.mat (MATLAB structure). This structure is dimensioned as follows</p> <p>data(longitude,Kp,date,pitchangle)</p> <p>where these indices in each dimension correspond to the following values</p> <p>longitude=0:5:355</p> <p>kp=[0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7]</p> <p>date=[2015 3 21; 2015 6 21; 2015 9 21; 2015 12 21]</p> <p>pitchangle=[10 30 50 70 90]</p> <p><br></p> <p>MATLAB code to access the VNC output data files is available from corresponding author.</p> <p><br></p>
