Why Read Harlequin Mills & Boon Romances?

Harlequin Mills & Boon Romances have long been the black sheep of the literary family and subject to almost universal derogatory criticism.  However, there is evidence to suggest that Romance is one of the oldest and most enduring of literary modes which survive today, and there is, I believe, a clear provenance from the sentimental Romances of the eighteenth-century to Harlequin Mills & Boon romances of today.

This research highlights the tropes and literary devices used by authors from the Mills & Boon stable in order to unite their heroes and heroines and illustrate why readers don’t need to be ashamed to enjoy a Mills & Boon romance.
