Recording from OpenFest 2024 Day 1: Charles Rouge, Pushing back against a publisher: how you can do it, and why you should
Recording from Day 1 of OpenFest 2024, the annual celebration and exploration of open research delivered by the Universities of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam.
Charles Rouge (Civil and Structural Engineering), Pushing back against a publisher: how you can do it, and why you should
Within an ever-evolving Open Access landscape, it can be easy for authors and publishers alike to get confused, and for the former to bow to unreasonable demands from the latter. This talk is about my story with a recent publication: how I first caved in to unreasonable demands, before successfully pushing back with the help of the University of Sheffield's open access team. The story will conclude with lessons learned in the hope they can be useful to others, and will in particular stress how pushing back against the publisher does not diminish a researcher's reputation with a journal's editorial board.
