The Safe 2 Share survey is a new way for people to share experiences of NHS inpatient mental health care. It covers treatment, the ward environment, and staff to ensure patients’ voices are heard. The 10-question online survey, with a comments box, helps staff track feedback easily.

An event with patients, staff, and ward managers highlighted that the survey should remain anonymous, though this limits follow-up on issues. It was also suggested that an independent reviewer could ensure patient voices are respected. Participants noted that patients and staff may view comments differently, as their perspectives on care often vary.

Data from five Sheffield wards showed that most people who started the survey completed it, though fewer than in other NHS surveys. Only about one in ten eligible people responded, and most responses came from two wards, possibly due to staff engagement or patient needs. The survey showed good reliability, producing consistent results.

Overall, Safe 2 Share offers a valuable feedback tool for the NHS, but further stakeholder input and a larger number of responses are needed to confirm trends and guide its use.
