Sheffield Type 2 Diabetes Treatment Model version 4.0: with the GLoW Trial health economic analysis implemented.

This repository contains the executable software to perform the economic analyses of the Glucose Lowering through Weight management (GLoW) Trial.

The trial manuscript is titled:

Glucose Lowering through Weight management (GLoW): A randomised controlled trial of the clinical and cost-effectiveness of a diabetes education and behavioural weight management programme versus a diabetes education programme in adults with a recent diagnosis of type 2 diabetes.

The School of Public Health Research Diabetes Treatment model was adapted to evaluate the lifetime NHS costs and Quality Adjusted Life Years (QALY) for the trial intervention arms with probabilistic sensitivity analysis. The microsimulation model simulates diabetes-related health outcomes using the UK Prospective Diabetes Study Outcomes Model 2 risk equations and metabolic risk factor trajectory equations, osteoarthritis, colorectal cancer, and breast cancer. QALYs are adjusted for age, BMI, and health events. Medication costs savings from diabetes remission are simulated conditional on HbA1c. Myocardial Infarction and Stroke events were calibrated to a 10-year follow-up of the ADDTITION-Europe trial. The manuscript, submitted for publication, contains further explanation of the trial, model structure, model population and model inputs.

The GLoW trial evaluated whether a tailored diabetes education and behavioural weight management programme (DEW) was more effective and cost-effective than a diabetes education (DE) programme in helping people with overweight or obesity and a recent diagnosis of T2D to lower their blood glucose, lose weight and improve other markers of cardiovascular risk.
