Student Feedback Codebook
[Preliminary release for 2024 Education Conference]
This codebook describes different topics addressed by postgraduate taught students in text comments submitted as part of end-of-module feedback surveys. The 51 specific codes are organised into five overarching themes.
Codes were identified in the context of a project conducted in the University of Sheffield Information School during 2023-2024, aimed at reviewing student feedback on modules in the MSc in Data Science course. Analysis included review of text comments submitted to end-of-module surveys for 11 modules in the course, for five academic years from 2017-2018 to 2021-2022. The study was approved under University of Sheffield ethics review process, administered by the Information School, as study number 053571.
This preliminary version of the codebook was released to coincide with the University of Sheffield’s 2024 Education Conference. An updated version of the codebook is expected to be released subsequently, to include relevant examples of each code.
