Real-time visual thermal analysis of the Argon plasma
Description
This dataset contains the thermal imaging recordings made during the experiments investigating the effect of gas flow rate on the shape of the plasma. The index at the end of the file name denotes the order they were taken. The plasma tool head is positioned on the right of the image with the plasma and powder travelling from the right to the left of the image.
File Format
The recordings are in FLIR's Compressed Sequence File format called CSQ and NPZ. The CSQ recordings were made with the emissivity set to 0.94 as the true emissivity was not known at the time. It is recommended to get FLIRs tools to change the emissivity and observe the effects.
The NPZ files are exported thermal data from these recordings with a set emissvity of 0.74. The emissivity is based on the material of the injector holder of the plasma head (Grade 303 Stainless Steel). These files contain a single 3D array of temperature data where the units are degrees C. The data is shaped NxWxH where N is the number of frames, W is the width of the frames and H is the height of the frames.
The recordings were made with a T540 with the standard lens.

- sheffield_doe_flowrate_gasrate_0002: Good run
- sheffield_doe_flowrate_gasrate_0003: Starts with PULSE material flow rate rather than fixed
- sheffield_doe_flowrate_gasrate_0004: Powder level running low. May affect contrast and luminosity
- sheffield_doe_flowrate_gasrate_0005: Stopped early due to loss of power to recording PC
